No - if you don't participate in the exchange, you aren't part of it.

If you want safe, moderated exchange, then go to forums..

E-mail is sort of self-policing and when someone wants to go against the
flow of expectations, this is the way the self-policing occurs. It's
participatory if you choose, good spectator sport of you like, or pretty
easy to delete if you are uninterested.
