thanks again for your assistance Ok:
here is the output:
dmseg | grep tty
console [tty0] enabled
usb 5-1:pl2303 converter now attatched to ttyUSB0
it looks like it recognizes it so I dont have to do anything,
been a while since i use linux and i love it already, just need to help me get this working, i appreciate it,
how do i enable the emulator, i have the console cable hooked up to the switch, how do i start the emulator from the command line or gui .

What's the USB adapter your using?  When you plug it in, what does dmesg
say?  I use my adapter all the time and don't have trouble with it as
long as the module is loaded.
