The display manager and desktop should not matter. As a temporary
fix, until the official one comes out, try creating a file
/etc/security/console.perms.d/ati.perms like this:

#ATI video card

<ati>=/dev/shm/ATISHM00

<console>  0600 <ati> 195 root.root
