Then one wonders why the man page includes....

       -format
              Format  a  CD-RW/DVD-RW/DVD+RW disc.  Formatting is currently
only implemented for DVD+RW media.

Why implement a "format" if you can't write.  :-)

Yes, that is true...but it doesn't make the above false.
