Take a look in the /var/log/samba/ logs... I don't have Samba installed,
but IIRC it has an error log in there.

I didn't see anything specifically named IIRC in the /var/log/samba
There is a log file for each client that tries to connect, there is also a nmbd log and an smbd log and then there is a cores directory that has an nmbd and smbd directory in it.

That is all that I saw.
