You must use ipw3945 driver. The in-built driver iwl3945 doesn't works.
See http://fedorasolved.org on a working howto.

I think if you have any WiFi problems,
NetworkManager (NM) makes them harder to diagnose -
it just adds another layer of obfuscation.

I would switch NM off, and see if the problems persist.
