Using ntpdate vs. ntpd is a political question.  ntpdate is still
faster even though it has been on the chopping block for years.
Personally I'm quite happy to ignore the politics and keep on using
ntpdate as the first-pass time setting utility and save the 20-30
seconds on every boot.
