Ccheck and see whether you're running GDM or KDM:

    ps -ef | grep gdm

(or kdm).  Also:

    cat /etc/sysconfig/desktop

A KDE user (not me) might have:

    #cat /etc/sysconfig/desktop
    DESKTOP="KDE"
    DISPLAYMANAGER=KDE

See the thread "Switching Gnome to KDE in F7?"
