There's a linux driver for your 5610b modem there. I've used it successfully in the past but I have a memory of having to 'fool' around with it a little.

I had no trouble getting this [U.S.Robitics] modem to work with Fedora Core 5.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but it's been a long time since I had to
worry about a modem. But I've had your exact model running under earlier
versions of Fedora.

Good luck on getting that laptop modem to work, however. Try linmodem.org for
ideas
