You may have to turn off frame buffer; i.e. fb=off.  Regardless, rhgb
does not use X. In a normal boot X is not started until runlevel 5.

Why do you assume X does not see your card? You can run KDE with your
monitor set at 1280x800. If you have either an ATI or Nvidia adapter
and are not satisfied with the X-org drivers enable the Livna
repository and install their repackaged drivers.
