FWIW, I have an three nForce 4 m/bs with SATA (Asus A8N-SLI, A8N32 and
A8N-VM) with NEC 3550 and have never had this problem.


I would not rely on cable select doing the proper thing. Make sure
that the CD/DVD drive is connected to the end of the IDE cable and
that the jumper is set to the "master" position.
