        Monitor    "Monitor0"
        DefaultDepth     24
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport   0 0
                Depth     24
                Modes    "800x600"
        EndSubSection
EndSection

open a terminal (accessories -> terminal) and type:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
Follow the instructions. After this hit ctrl-alt&backspace to restart the x-server.
