I haven't tried from FLV to MP3, but I tried from FLV to AVI and ffmpeg did
the trick

Thanks, Manuel. The trick to extract *only* the sound is to use the
following command:

mplayer -dumpaudio get_video.flv

where get_video.flv is the video file obtained from YouTube. The
resulting file is a mp3 audio file.
