Yes - if X fails, check you have the xorg ati driver installed:
$ yum list *x*ati*
xorg-x11-drv-ati.i386                    6.6.3-1.fc6            installed


It fails. I cannot start X with the "radeon" instead of "vesa". And as
pointed out previously, xorg-x11-drv-ati.i386 is installed.
