sry, yesterday morning i had not enough time to describe all in details.

T43 is the modell number of the IBM thinkpad.

I have done a complete backup of the two xp partitions.
I reinstall fedora, because it was so damaged, that it was unusable.

Basic commandos did not work etc.

smartctl shows me, that the drive does not support smart:

smartctl version 5.36 [i686-redhat-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-6
Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/

Device: ATA FUJITSU MHV2080A Version: 0084
Serial number: NT20T682980V
Device type: disk
Local Time is: Fri Dec 15 07:27:35 2006 CET
Device does not support SMART

Error Counter logging not supported

I have disabled the smartd daemon on my laptop.

When the system crashes again, i will swap the hd.

Thanks for your answer
