Are you running Bluetooth on your computer?
The standard Linux Bluetooth program is bluez .
Try "service bluetooth restart" and then "hciconfig -a".
That should tell you if bluetooth is running on your machine.

I use gnokii to link to my Sony-Ericsson phone with bluetooth,
but there are many other ways of doing it.
