I think you can use sftp itself from scripts by using the -b option to specify a series of commands to execute or by using '-' and piping commands to it via standard input.

can get that uses the SSL encription.  I did just find a perl module
Net::FTPSSL, put I'd also like a regular program like sftp.


Oh I see, in that case 'curl' claims to do ftps. I haven't tried it myself but it's worth a shot.
