now enable xgl
gnome-xgl-switch --enable --auto
with
kernel 2.6.17-1.2157_FC5
kmod-fglrx-8.27.10-2.2.6.17_1.2157_FC5.i686.rpm
xorg-x11-drv-fglrx-8.27.10-3.lvn5.i386.rpm
you have a perfect setup for XGL and ATI X700.
