Actually, I was wrong;
the kernel-devel rpm does contain the kernel sources.
These should appear in /usr/src/kernels/2.6.17-1.2174_FC5-i686/ .
I assume that if you go to this directory you can compile the kernel 
by simply saying "make".
Then you can install it by "make modules_install" and "make install".
