Hi, this is not correct! In older versions, you had to set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL,
but I'm running MATLAB-R2006a both on FC5/X86_64 and RH EL4/X86_64 without any problem and without setting some env variable.

which I have tried to do
by setting and exporting it in /etc/profile - no
go. I'm not the first to report this, but I couldn't
find a solution posted on the archive - any ideas?

In case someone suggests using ld.so.conf.d & ldconfig,
I've tried that but it triggers an error message - that's
an issue for Matlab
