RE: FC4 NIS client problems

It sounds like ypbind is starting before rpc.portmap?

We have a similar problem with FC3 and we actually shuffle the order of
some of the scripts in /etc/rc5.d to fix it. Check out what order your
programs are starting in.

:b!

Subject: FC4 NIS client problems

Dear all,
I have discovered some problems with the ypbind daemon included in FC4.
At boot time the daemon doesn't starts correctly and the error message
reported in /var/log/messages is the following:
portmap[2270]: connect from 127.0.0.1 to set(ypbind): request from
unprivileged port
ypbind[2266]: Unable to register (YPBINDPROG, YPBINDOLDVERS, udp).

I have 40 PCs with the same problem (while another different PC, also
with FC4 ha no problems...) ... And all of them were working just fine
before... Well, before something happened. I think the problem should be
due to some updates, but I do not know which ones. These PCs are used by
students and they started reporting problems just today. In the last
days the lab have been pretty empty though, therefore the problem may
have been there for a longer time (let's say 20 days).

It looks like by restarting the daemon after the boot solves the
problem.

Any hint for this?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,
	Alberto
