I can edit this. Goes through the >kernel boot, comes to start X, can't - keyboard won't respond. Can you boot to single-user? (Add the option 'single' to the option-list in the grub boot line). If so, prevent X from autostarting by changing the 5 to a 3 in the line 'id:5:initdefault:' in /etc/inittab. You should then be able to boot up and log in through a terminal, and 'startx' to start X.
