Is this on the machine to which the printer is attached,
or are you referring to remote machines too?

I have
DeviceURI parallel:/dev/lp0
in /etc/cups/printers.conf on my desktop (to which the printer is attached)
but
DeviceURI ipp://alfred:631/printers/lj
on my laptop .
