I am willing to buy a new card, just to get rid of the closed source issue.
Does anyone have a pointer?

The Radeon 9200 series is the strongest dedicated card currently supported by Free drivers. The Intel integrated GMA900/950 stuff also uses Free drivers, if your motherboard has this (though the mode-setting stuff is through the video BIOS, as I understand it); and it has performance equivalent to a Radeon 9500-ish according to various X hackers whom I've spoken with.

These are not very powerful compared to the stuff currently on the market, but they work very well. I've got a Radeon 9200 on mine and it works beautifully. :)

Thanks Peter,

What I am looking for is 3D performance. I will just go and see if I can find a comparison of Radeon 9200 and other cards (like my radeon 800 XL).

BTW my own card works well with the radeon driver for 2D, but I am looking for 3D performance too (I don't know why, but I like playing games :{ )
I will get back to you if I find anything new.

Guus.
