That is 'fake RAID' (BIOS supported software RAID) - forget about it and
use Linux Software RAID.

On the contrary: FC5 fully supports installing and booting from many
flavors of fakeraid, through dmraid. Any previous version won't work
without serious muddling around though (e.g. won't install OR boot at
first). Google for whether dmraid supports your fakeraid chipset.
