It's a crazy novel idea, but why doesn't somebody offer a patch with the
requisite functionality enhancement?  I never used the "everything"
install ever, personally, and don't care that it is gone, but if it's
important enough to you, offer a patch that adds something to click to
toggle all children on and off at each parent level.

It's not like you don't get the sources

The moral case for demanding inclusion of it will improve tenfold if
somebody that wants it actually does the work rather than finds
themselves throwing stones at the window of the people doing the work.
