I suspect that it does exist though.  I have a hardware DVD recorder that 
appears to run xine for its UI.  If you make a recording that is too long to 
go on a DVD5 disk, there is a utility to split it - and conversely to combine 
two shorter recordings.

Of course it may be proprietary software, but I'm certain that box runs 
embedded linux.
