I think some do themselves harm by the way they post.  Three common
things spring immediately to mind.

There's the obvious things about not starting a new thread for a new
topic, just replying to someone else's completely different thread.
Such lost messages get ignored/deleted by anybody ignoring the original
thread.  I do this a lot (ignore/delete threads I'm not following).

And huge long posts, with little or no snippage (whether replies are top
or bottom posted, or interspersed).  I hit delete on messages that are
just masses of verbage, where we're supposed to find the salient parts
buried somewhere extremely inconvenient.  I'm sure lots of others do,
too.

Hideously mangled messages that are difficult to read.
