Subnets problem

Hi list

We got a toshiba magnia sg20 server for free and we're trying to set it up.

The instruction manual says to connect to it on 192.168.1.1 which would be the
255.255.0.0 subnet right?

We'll we've set up a box on that subnet and did a nmap scan but it's not
finding the server. Also when we ping the 192.168.1.1 ip we get a host
unreachable response from the ip that issued the ping. Does any of this
sounds familiar.

Also, if the previous owners had put it on another subnet, how could we find
out about it?

With kind regards

Andy
