My arrow keys seem quite natural. Up arrow points up and moves up; the
down arrow's below it and moves down; left arrow is left of it, and
points left; there's a right arrow on the right that goes right, etc.

Why can't firefox obey the standard convention?

But *which* standard???

- move down with the right index finger, up with the middle finger,
left by reaching left, and right with the third finger? Scroll up a
full page by reaching up to u, and down with the thumb.

Oh right, one with out any coherent correlation between the keycaps and
the functionality.

Much as it grieves me to say it, there's a lot of logic in some of the
other OSs key combinations: A qualifier and O to open files, a
qualifier and S to save a file, arrow keys, etc. Linux, on the other
hand, uses a plethora of illogical and different key combinations.
Heck, I can't even cut and paste between some things, at all, even when
I've figured out what peculiar key combinations individual applications
use.

I can see why Firefox, by default, uses logical key combinations, and
doesn't use unnatural vi-specific keybindings.

I can agree with the argument that the common user may not understand the Emacs or Vi "standard" key bindings for cursor movement, but over the years they HAVE become a standard. I also agree that the plethora for key mappings from Linux applications are detrimental to common user "comfort" with Linux.

Having said that, however, for someone used to the Vi/Emacs "standards" it would be a great convenience not to have to shift to the auxiliary keypad to move about in the browser.

Thanks, David, for showing me how I can install the Vi key bindings
