Have I missed something?

You wanted

# shutdown -h -t 10 now

The -t secs is the delay between the message and the shutdown.

The time parameter is when to issue the message, and is an
absolute time, or +nn where nn is the number of minutes to
wait, or is "now".

This message made from 100% recycled bits.
You have found the bank of Larn.
I can explain it for you, but I can't understand it for you.
I speak only for myself, and I am unanimous in that!
