I have encountered this. There are many ways to deal with it. I have Synaptic
Package Manager on my system, which makes it real easy. Others will suggest
other methods, perhaps. With Synaptic, you just click on the installed
packages button, find the packages that have double versions, and delete the
older. If memory serves, just starting Synaptic while such a condition exists
will actually give you a warning about the double versions. Anyhow, it's
quite easy to deal with using this technique.
