Slow direcrt access to floppy (FC2)

I find that directly opening a floppy (unmounted) and reading it
is very slow on my machine. I understand that this may be a known
problem with FC2.

Do later releases address this?

If not, is there a fix in the works?

I can explain it for you, but I can't understand it for you.
