I was lucky to figure it out.  Do the following and I
know it works in (GNOME).  

Desktop -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts

Action -> Desktop -> Show the Panel Menu
       was <alt>+F1 or is
       change to Windows Key between <Ctrl> and <Alt>

and it should work.  Please report back if
success/failure. 

For KDE, the process should be similar I hope.
