First I had to learn how to exit the X server and to enter again in X
windows. Then I installed the package as explained as root . Something
had to be built. Then as root with the old driver I configured
my /etc/X/xorg.conf file as indicated and then I restarted again the X
server and crossed my fingers. First I saw nothing but then I saw a
splash screen with nvidia on it and everything went well. Finally you
can run nvidia-settings to adjust if necessary.
