I wasn't party to the previous discussion, but I will observe that I have a machine on which I have just installed RHL 7.3 and Nahant beta 1. It gets different IP addresses depending on which OS I boot: I don't know the reason.
It seems to me that on some of your systems hostid is picking up an IP6 address or representing an IP4 address as IP6. As ssh does not (dratted thing!).
