I think I remember postings here on the list where people reported that
switching off ACPI cured problems with the current 2.6.11.x kernel.

"dmesg" command shows you some valid log information.
Yes, if you do not change your hardware frequently you can switch off
the kudzu service. You can run it manually on occasion.
