well if it blows away all the subdirs, i'll be ticked!!! your msg was a
little late! i've already started the upgrade process.. i had to go to FC3,
as opposed to FC2 as i couldn't find a torrent site for the FC2 isos...
trying to get the isos from the various mirrors kept dying...

so, we'll see what happens in a few minutes!

You can reinstall, but that likely would have blown away /usr  and /var
with all subdirectories.

do backups of what is remaining then reinstall and restore.
