Quake2 and audio

I've been unable to get Quake2 to function propperly ever since I upgraded to FC3. My problems are all with audio. Since quake2 is open source now I figured that there had to be a solution out there for me so I tried everything I could get my hands on. ALSA sound for Q2, SDL sound, other quake2 ports but always I have problems with sound.

Quake2 sound code is simple enough but I cant put my finger on whats wrong or why ALSA and SDL also fails. My binaries are all fine on FC2 and older so I'm starting to think this has something to do with FC3.

Has anyone else seen this problem ?
