gnome on RH9

Hi

I have problem with gnome on RH9 (kernel Linux 2.4.20-8 #1 i386 GNU/Linux). I did a blind upgrade of XFree86-*.rpm using a

rpm -Fhv XFree86*

After that, log into gnome session was very slow and came out not right, some windows (eg xterm gterm) open up without border, I mean, no top panel or no roll bar.
Could someone guild me how to fix it? or where to look for causes.

I did not upgrade kde*.rpm. Log into kde works fine.

Regards,

Yuandan

PS XFree86- upgraded
