You're on the right track. I haven't been following
your thread, but here is what I have in my fstab that
allows the required user to mount, or rather, it gets
automounted and he has full access:

/dev/hda1 /mnt/windoze vfat
rw,noexec,uid=500,gid=500,umask=077 0 0

Change the uid/gid to your own; change the umask to
the permissions you want. 077 means user 500 has full
access, but nobody else, ie, chmod 700.
