Because none so called kernel and kernel modules is available for Fedora
Core as an RPM.

Use the newer NVidia closed source driver:

NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7167-pkg1.run

It has changes for 2.6.10 and 2.6.11 kernels. If build still fails
compare your .config with the one of the Fedora Core kernel, in especial
the video section.
