gnome photo print compile error

I'm trying to compile gnome photo print  and it keeps throwing a error 
[snip]

checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config

checking for libglade-2.0... found
checking for libgnomeprint-2.2... configure: error: You need to have
libgnomeprint-2.2 installed to compile & run this software.

It appears that i have the correct lib installed.  Why am I getting the error?
