should i use a proxy to solve it or what ?

Can you retrieve either of the following files using your regular browser? http://fedora.redhat.com/download/up2date-mirrors/fedora-core-3 http://fedora.redhat.com/download/up2date-mirrors/updates-released-fc3

These are what up2date appears to be having problems with.

I only asked about the proxy because I thought you might be behind a
firewall that was blocking your attempted connection to fedora.redhat.com.

well, i tried to access the two links from the web browser and they
worked with no problems at all.
i still don't see the reason prventing the update

Neither do I; could you try: # up2date-nox --list

and if that fails, you could always give yum a try:
# yum check-update
and if that works:
# yum update

Paul.
