Yeah, try K3B, it should work fine.

And just another thing for preventing future problems, if your K3B doesn't find any suitable device, you may give permission to your /dev/hdx device to your user.

X-CDroast is a bit behind the times. Try k3b and see if that likes your 
drive any better,
