Nothing can be brought it except for media after it has been inspected and
approved. Also, the current PC's that they are using already have Windows
installed on them and are used in daily instruction/production.

Matt:

Been there, done that. I suggest downloading the updates at home and burning them to a CD-R (never bring a Flash Drive into one of those places.) Once the CD is cleared, use it to update your systems. You will need to get both the 32 bit and 64 bit updates since you are running a 64 bit machine. Get ONLY the updates your system needs.

Advise the folks who approve the media where you obtained the updates, in your case, I would make the exception and advise that you get your updates ONLY from downloads.fedora.redhat.com.

And last, but not least, there is a Dummy's Guide to Fedora. This is a good starter book. I would also recommend a good UNIX/Linux book. There is a series by O'Reilly books with animals on the cover, and they have a very good systems administrator's guide to Linux.
