OK, I think I get your point, though you could've been more gentle about it - jeez. :)
One question I do have though.
I find you are right in the Gnome environment, but I can copy - close firefox - open firefox, then paste just fine in KDE.
Maybe a gnome bug instead of X?
Your situation may be different of course.
