I have seen gruub hang on stage 2 and heard others with
similar problems.
In my case I did the following to get past this blockage.
1) make sure no usb device is plugged in - no mouse - nothing.
2) see if that boots.
3) if not - boot the rescue cd with networking on
( I assume you can get to internet)
chroot /mnt/sysimage
rpm --import usr/share/doc/fedora-release-3/RPM-GPG-KEY*
yum update kernel
boot the new kernel and see if you have joy.
[ If you cannot get to internet for some reason - download
the latest kernel - trasfer via cdrom and install by hand.]
After you are up and running do a yum update.
