I have the same problem on a different system. Fedora is the only OS
I've installed which has it, even a completely botched installation of
Ubuntu doesn't suffer it (the OS won't boot, but it powers down when
the off button is pushed!). As an interim thing, you should be able to
kill it anyway by holding down the off button for 5 seconds or
thereabouts.
