First, I find it a good advise to do X updates in console mode only. So
sign off from your current session and then switch to console 1 by
pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1. Then login as root and switch off X by running
"init 3". You may need to press "enter" 1 time to get the prompt back.
You can process the update from command line by running "up2date -u".
Much safer to have X not running when updating it.

So I would highly recommend you customize the /etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources
file (I think you meant that) and place in there one or more mirror
server sources near to your location. Else a mirror would be chosen
randomly and that can be causing big lags for your update.
